At the time I loved listening to the Beatles. They were my favorite band. WRIF 101.1 FM was “the” rock station. I just checked and to my surprise all these years later is still up and running. Once per year they would have the “Beatles A to Z weekend.” They would actually play the entire Beatles catalog in alphabetic order. One year I asked my father if I could use his stereo to record stuff off of the radio and I saved up to purchase a box of 60 minute cassette tapes. To have the Beatles entire a to z catalog on cassette tape was a dream. I could not afford at the time to purchase the individual albums. This way, I would no longer have to either wait for songs to come on the radio or call in to request them to be played. I could listen to whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I think the tape with the song Help on it got the most play time by me. Later I had a trial separation from the Beatles. I thought the Clash told me it was not cool to listen to the Beatles with the Clash's line in 1979's London Calling, "Phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust." Not really. I found out later it was about a show called "Beatlemania" that played in the London West End and on Broadway where 4 actors played the Beatles. When Strummer snarls "Phony Beatlemania has bitten the dust," he’s celebrating the end of that specific, hollowed-out imitation of the Beatles. He was essentially saying that the 70s were over, the fake nostalgia was dying, and it was time for something real (and much louder). Actually, it was my own inclination to not listen to the Beatles at the time. To me they kind of represented the whole corporate owned and produced music thing to me and I was into the Do it Yourself punk movement at the time. As I got older in life, I learned again to appreciate the Beatles. Now I enjoy watching David Hartley’s YouTube channel. He dissects songs and shows what the band being covered did to get the song from beginning to end in the studio. He covers a lot of the Beatles music. My favorite video of his is titled “The world's greatest song that simply shouldn't exist.” The link is in this video’s description and also in a punned comment at the top. https://youtu.be/WPKHKkylciI The video covers what it took for the Beatles to create and record the song from the album, Seargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Bands, A Day in the Life. Watching David’s videos provides a glimpse into the magic that was the Beatles working together in the studio. It is amazing to me how complex of a product they produced with, rudimentary by today’s standards, but complex technology at the time. They would literally try anything. Nothing was out of bounds or off the4 table. Watch the video and listen to the song again and you will gain an appreciation for the Beatles if you already don’t have one. Many months back I decided I was going to put together a unique Beatles Tribute Telecaster that I would call the “Fab Telecaster.” I plan on giving this guitar away through the channel to a lucky winner. Stay tuned because I will shortly announce how you can be that winner. I picked out the image that I thought would work the best and I reached out to Christian Smith at Dodges Wood and Iron. He has developed similar guitar bodies for me in the past with an image on the surface of the body of Jimi Hendrix. This body would be routed for up to a P90 pickup in the neck and standard Tele Single Coil in the Bridge. A few weeks later he sent me a body that matched exactly what I had imagined. I picked up parts that I thought would make this a pretty cool guitar that would be fitting of the subject matter. I started with ordering a Vintera II 60s Telecaster neck with the following specifications. • Maple neck with early-'60s "C" shape • Rosewood fingerboard with 7.25" radius • 21 vintage tall frets; pre-slotted synthetic bone nut • Vintage-style truss rod • Six vintage-style tuning machines. Next, I picked out a wiring harness that was a high quality and also allowed for someone that cannot solder to be able to swap out pickups. Here are the specifications: • Screw down solderless wire connection for easy/reliable installation and quick pickup swaps • Vintage quality USA branded components (Switchcraft, Mojotone, CRL, and CTS) • [고정댓글] https://youtu.be/WPKHKkylciI https://www.ebay.com/usr/gravityguitar
